Our Courtesy Laugh weekend

Aug 13

Friday morning, Liz and I woke up, loaded the car, and drove to Jackson, MS to hang out with a bunch of people we met on the internet.

Yep- you can still meet creeps online.

We ate, we drank, we laughed, we wrestled, we slapped each other, we got yelled at by a hotel security guard because apparently some people don’t think it’s cool for us to be hilarious at midnight.

Whatever.

Friday night was pizza and drinks. And laughter.

SO MUCH LAUGHING.

Saturday we all met up for breakfast at a place called Sneaky Beans, which seriously had the best cheese grits ever. More laughing, then Craven’s friend Jason (who wrote TCL’s theme song, by the way) set up some stuff and we got to record a new episode, which involved more laughing, more terrible impressions, and more slapping each other.

We ate lunch, then spent the evening at this big block party in the Belhaven neighborhood. It was a really cool atmosphere, lots of live music, some vendors selling stuff, and FREE POPCORN!!! All just in this neighborhood. Like, musicians on front porches, bouncy houses in front yards, clowns making balloon animals and painting faces in somebody’s driveway. It was a really great neighborhood event, and made Liz and me jealous.

We were gonna shoot some promo videos at the hotel that night, and we tried, but none of us are very good in front of a camera, and also we were too loud, so a nice man in a uniform knocked on our door and told us to shut up. Actually, I think his exact words were, “I’m gonna ask you to keep it down. But if I have to come back up here it’s gonna be a different story.”

Sunday morning was a quick breakfast, then we all had to hit the road because those of us with kids figured we probably needed to get back and feed them, since we had only left two days worth of food in their bowls. (That’s how parenting is supposed to go, right?)

It was a great trip, and each of the people in the picture above is classy and polite and hilarious. (Except me. I’m rude white trash.) Hopefully it won’t be the last time we do this, but hopefully it will be the last time Craven wears that Elton John/Billy Joel shirt.

  1. The shirt was so realistic that I thought there were 6 of you guys, only two were kinda short.

  2. I may have heard you in Canada…

Seriously, how much fun was that…you guys crack me up. My kids think I am crazy when they catch me laughing at the podcasts but can’t hear what caused it since I listen with headphones to drown out their little whining voices…oh, and I love how dubious Knox looks in that first picture.

  4. The Summer of ’94! It’ll never die. NEVER.

Another weekend highlight was Jason helping us record, then PROMPTLY going to the ER.

Free popcorn? Must have been the best party ever!

Also, I’m so glad TCL is back. I’ve missed it!

  6. Next I want to see pics of Elton John and Billy Joel each wearing a Joseph Craven t-shirt.
